Which is Baby?
The baby is in front. The whale in back is probably Mom, never far away. You can tell a baby by the dimples on its face. Those "dimples" are hair follicles, which are most noticeable on baby whales. Whales are mammals: They are born alive, nurse on mother's milk, and have hair. (No, we don't see any hair either!) Dr. David Rugh explains: "Whales have evolved away from needing a fur coat. Hair would slow them down! They have a thick layer of blubber instead. Whales have only a few hairs around their mouths before they are born. Most of these hairs are shed at birth, although adults may have some bristles on their chins."
