Predicting the Arrival of Spring
Ideas for Assessment
There are many opportunities for assessment embedded in this project. Ideally,
individual students will keep a Journey North science notebook Periodically, have
individual students record their own thoughts in this notebook so you can observe
their progress through the project.
For example:
- Have students record their own KWL charts at various points.
- Compare the sophistication of the student's rationale for making and changing
predictions at regular intervals.
- Ask students to do individual webbing exercises in their notebooks.
- Have students defend their own predictions in instances when their opinion differs
from that of the group.
- Each group could write a specific summary of the information they gathered and
their thinking in making their predictions.
