Finding Natural Nectar
Hummingbirds compete for nectar to fuel their high energy lifestyle. Flower nectar is a simple fluid composed mainly of sugar and water. Most birds prefer a flower's natural nectar over what we give them in our feeders. As blooms fade in the fall, hummers visit feeders more often. For protein, they eat small insects.
